You probably haven’t heard, but Ted Weber passed away last Friday.

He was a speaker builder, the founder of Weber Speakers, and quite an innovator when it came to guitar tone. I’ve got 3 of his California Series speakers in various speaker cabs. They sound great.

Here’s a link to is obituary.

The best part is that he was a hobbyist. Unlike Seymour Duncan or Bill Lawrence who were better known for their playing, before they started designing gear, Ted Weber worked at GM most of his life. He built a few guitar speakers for friends, and then things took off.

Coincidentally, Weber Speakers is in the midst of a 10% off sale.

Child Bite will be performing with Young Widows tonight at the Lagerhouse. We’re all pretty lucky, because Young Widows rule.

Do me (and yourself) a favor, and just check them out. Even if you can’t come tonight. Just go here and check out “Old Skin,” maybe even watch the video. It’s a short song, only a 2-minute investment.

Let me be honest, I wasn’t thrilled with them at first. Clance talked them up a ton, so I was pumped to listen to them, but not sold upon my first few listens. But then that awesome thing happened, where I kept finding myself wanting to hear them. In the last month, I’ve gone to their myspace page and listened to the same five songs almost daily. So, needless to say, I’m very pumped to see them tonight, and to buy their record.

And that’s another benefit to not illegally downloading or pirating music (a practice I decided to put an end to in my life). That buildup. I haven’t felt that build up for a while. Because in the past, pretty much every record was immediately available to me, but this one isn’t. Clance has it on his ipod, so I got to listen to it on a recent weekend outing, but generally, it’s been something that I’ve really wanted but “couldn’t” have. I checked a couple record stores, couldn’t find it. I could order it, but it’d take a couple weeks, and I knew I was going to see them anyway. So I’ve been forced to wait. And it’s awesome, and I’m excited like a teenager.
