Good Lord

If you think that we find insane things on youtube, here is a taste of the stuff that these weirdos find (Audio is NSFW):

Dude also pulls his dong out at the very end, so I guess the whole thing is NSFW. Whoops.

Young Widows Tonight!

Child Bite will be performing with Young Widows tonight at the Lagerhouse. We’re all pretty lucky, because Young Widows rule.

Do me (and yourself) a favor, and just check them out. Even if you can’t come tonight. Just go here and check out “Old Skin,” maybe even watch the video. It’s a short song, only a 2-minute investment.

Let me be honest, I wasn’t thrilled with them at first. Clance talked them up a ton, so I was pumped to listen to them, but not sold upon my first few listens. But then that awesome thing happened, where I kept finding myself wanting to hear them. In the last month, I’ve gone to their myspace page and listened to the same five songs almost daily. So, needless to say, I’m very pumped to see them tonight, and to buy their record.

And that’s another benefit to not illegally downloading or pirating music (a practice I decided to put an end to in my life). That buildup. I haven’t felt that build up for a while. Because in the past, pretty much every record was immediately available to me, but this one isn’t. Clance has it on his ipod, so I got to listen to it on a recent weekend outing, but generally, it’s been something that I’ve really wanted but “couldn’t” have. I checked a couple record stores, couldn’t find it. I could order it, but it’d take a couple weeks, and I knew I was going to see them anyway. So I’ve been forced to wait. And it’s awesome, and I’m excited like a teenager.

Do internet petitions mean anything?

I’m not sure.

But try to save the Halfass anyway. (Via eatthiscity, via Lightning Love)

I like that place. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a bad show there.  Saw Mirah, Hey Mercedes, Jason Anderson, Larval, Nymb, Cobra Youth (remember them?), lots of bands there. Probably saw Fred Thomas there, too. Anyway, it’s a unique venue, all ages, student-operated, not-for-profit. A good place to keep around.

Crazy synthy drum thing

Oooh, Shawn Knight needs one of these.

Check out those Youtube videos. Weird. Futuristic things.

Tom Werman

So Popdose (who have said nice things about THE PROJ in the past) has started running a feature where Tom Werman writes about his experiences working in the music industry. The first two installments have been great reads.

Part 1

Part 2

John Mayer

Say what you want about John Mayer (I say, “so awesome.”), but that dude is funny:

Retro Delicious

Came across these two things recently:

1) Pepsi and Mountain Dew get the “throwback” treatment.

2) “Retro” packaging on General Mills cereals.

I don’t claim to be a design guru or anything, but man, how AWESOME does that box of Kix look? I’m less enthralled with the Pepsi and Mountain Dew redesigns, but the Pepsi one looks ok I GUESS. Mountain Dew Throwback just looks bad retro 90s to me. Reminds me of:

So on one hand you get awesome General Mills packaging for the same old cereal, and on the other hand you get “kind of ok” Pepsi and Mountain Dew packaging for pop with real sugar in it. Nothing is perfect, except Smashmouth of course.
