Autobahn Heldentica

Some dude in the Netherlands is making his own versions of Helvetica using various household materials (toothpaste, ketchup, etc) on glass. He’s making them into working fonts (at least the toothpaste one) as well as capturing footage of what gravity does to the letter forms when he turns the glass up right.

Check out the whole post here, which includes more pics as well as a couple Flash animations (section 6).

Cascading errors

First there was a story about the auto industry in the paper. It was about Chrysler and GM possibly teaming up together.

Then janesvillejohn wrote: Wow now there is a brain storm of an idea! Two loosers getting together!

To which Jamie9427 responded: Yeah lord knows we dont want two LOOSERS together… Idk what a LOOSER is but it certainly sounds like something we dont need. lol. bwahahahha. Check your spelling before you put down and entire industry and way of life dude.

And of course, seeing a golden opportunity for putting someone down for misspelling a word, as they were putting someone else down for a misspelling, dggibson1 chimed in:
Check your spelling dude. It’s “an” entire not “and”.

And then I was like, “Yeah right, great quote usage, ROFL. The word ‘entire’ should go inside the quote and so should the period, you stupid worthless idiot. OMG, people are soooooo duuuuumb.”

Here’s some ideas

So, the comments sections of the newspapers I read online have been letting me down lately. People are just being less idiotic, or more outright nasty and not fun.

Fortunately, KjChris1 on the Free Press site got really nerdy and overly helpful in the wrong place.

This article is about the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce sending a cease and desist order to a Michigan production company over an ad that they created using a ‘Walk of Fame’ star with ‘Michigan’ written across it. The ad was run in a film industry publication in order to get more movies made in our state.

Anyway, then KjChris1 reads the story and has a bunch of really great ideas.

“Wow, to bad they won’t agree to let Michigan use it, it looks great-hey change the image to a SHOOTING STAR! That is not trademarked is it? If so how about a comet? or the actual mitten shape (state) but have the fill populated w/forest and the word Michigan shaped from animal forms and populate throughout the forest but difficult for the eye to see music notes, martini glass, boats, …etc. that would be very cool, if you have some really great artist out there…

Later!”

Yeah, a shooting star! Great idea! Oh, and Martini Glasses too! Awesome!

YouTube Civil War

It’s time to get your ENGLISH CIVIL WAR ON, YA’LL!!

One of the best sites dealing with the early modern era is Mercurius Politicus, which posted an awesome piece on the English civil war here last week.

Why am I posting this? Well, because I had my mind blown that people are STILL arguing Charles I & II vs Cromwell, 360 years later. The best part? Those people are arguing about it via YOUTUBE COMMENTS.
