I thought I would share some of the websites that I really enjoyed over the course of this year. I’m constantly behind on my Google Reader unread items, but attempting to catch up on them is easily one of my favorite things to do. Adam made a comment recently that he spends too much time consuming content instead of creating it. While I can relate, I guess I see the explosion of information, images, video, etc on the internet as a chance to keep my creative palette ON LOCK DOWN. PALETTES ON LOCK DOWN. Yeah, I dunno. OK HERE WE GO:
Random videos that are usually funny or insane. Archival, pretty much.
More archival video goodness, plus photos of hipsters, plus crazy blog entries that sometimes make me sad.
Random acts of fail-age.
Detroit and St. Louis music blog. Consistently thoughtful. I’m a fan of the more trashy Detroit blogs too, but these dudes are humble and I like that.
Great house/dance/disco mixes from nice dudes outta Chicago. They’ve been doing this for a few years now. ALWAYS GREAT.
Exactly what the title says. I’m a fan of 12 inch singles, and this blog seems to share that love. Placing alternate mixes on a single release is something that the indie-rock world needs to consider more.
Random “design-y” stuff. I have to assume this blog is written out of New York. “Daily Mean’s Fashion, Footwear, Lifestyle, and Design Culture Magazine” sez the header. “Stuff I Could Never Afford” sez me.
Similar to Selectism, but more fashion photography-centric.
Vintage Paperbacks (Non-Penguin) Photo Pool on Flickr:
For those who love vintage paperback book design, but hate Penguin designs.
New York-centric news and happenings, but not done in that horribly snobby New York way.
This guy is a doorman/bouncer in New York. He writes about it and it is awesome.
Light historical analysis of the Times London.
All of your hott antiquity newz in one convenient spot.
Primary source goodness all about the year 1692 in “America.”
GETCHA HOTT MAPZ YA’LL.
Classic Arts Showcase Channel on YouTube:
This is a TV network that used to be on channel 20 on Livonia cable a number of years ago, but isn’t anymore. I was very stoked to see that they had a YouTube channel.
Thoughts on music from New Yorker writer Alex Ross.
Snarky tech news.
Andy Baio has been running this site forever. Most of the links that he posts are worth your time.
Not really the how-to guide that the title implies. Instead, solid advice on to slowly get to where you want in life. This site jives well with my steez.
The best of TV without having to watch it.
Cool tumblr photo blog.
Awesome person in Russia clues you in to what’s going on in Russia. I cannot stress enough how awesome this site is.
Street fashion photography.
Awesome.
OK all done. Any cool sites to share? GET AT ME IN THE COMMENTS YA’LL.
